Organization Background

Zu Crew Nation is a community of individuals ranging from artists, musicians and industry professionals united for a common purpose, which is the overall improvement of society. Established in 2000, this group’s aim is to promote unity, originality, and consciousness in society while ensuring that these ideals will be articulated through future generations to come.

Purpose for this Event

The economic downturn our nation is facing is a diverse collection of many communities. Public school districts have been notably hit hard. The Los Angeles Unified School District has slashed $700 million dollars from its operating budget which includes arts education. These tough economic times have been hard on everyone, yet when school budgets are cut, the arts seem to be the first to go. This is due to a common misconception, that arts are a frill. At an alarming rate, art programs are vanishing from our nation's public schools. The arts teach discipline, problem solving, cooperation, and concentration-a nearly endless list of educational benefits. Adding an arts program to a school's curriculum increases student attendance, participation, test scores and graduation rate--all commonly accepted measures of excellence.

Event Goals and Objectives

The goal of this program is to raise financial donations for Public Schools and the R.A.C.E. Foundations to help keep art and music programs in these school affected by today’s economic downturn. The R.A.C.E. Foundation’s mission is to offer an alternative academic and vocational program that is designed to engage, educate, and empower you in the inner city who would normally participate in extra-curricular activities or traditional after school programs. By providing and intense and entertaining environment that is both purpose and result driven, the R.A.C.E. Foundation can provide a platform for success for many generations to com. Ticket sales from the art n’ life event will be donated to R.A.C.E. Foundation as a charitable contribution.

The Zu Crew will raise financial donations and resources during the Art and Life benefit on the night of October 10th 2009.  Our current expectancy for attendance is approximately 800 people at this time, not including our celebrity guest list. Media coverage will be provided by various local and nation TV, Radio, Blog, and Magazine publication.
